Freedom Flame in the Peel Region, Helmond
Freedom Fire the Peel
The Peel continues to honor freedom each year by lighting the Freedom Fire in the region. This tradition helps remind us of the significance of freedom.
Each year, a different municipality hosts the event. This year, in collaboration with the mayor, we have chosen a historic and picturesque location for the ceremony: the castle in the heart of Helmond.
In 2019, we marked 75 years of freedom in the Peel region. The enthusiasm for the Freedom Fire was so great that it led to annual repeats. Over time, more municipalities from both sides of the Brabant-Limburg border joined in. The event has grown so extensive that the organizing team founded the independent Freedom Fire the Peel foundation.
The foundation’s miss…

The foundation’s mission is to raise awareness among residents of the Peel region, from young to old, about the importance of freedom. They aim to engage all local communities, organizations, and volunteers involved in freedom and liberation.
Their goals include:
• Collecting the liberation fire annually in Eindhoven on September 18,
• Spreading the liberation fire in the Peel from one of the village centers on September 19,
• Rotating the role of guest municipality each year, involving various local groups such as committees, associations, runners, guilds, music groups, and reception committees.
This year’s event will take place at the castle in Helmond. Stay tuned for more details on the final program.
